Capitol 10k. . .feather in my belt

I will be on Fox News tonight for my accomplishments of entering the race and losing over 100 pounds!! The most important thing is that I found some new and interesting friends along the way who were inspired by my success!! The truth is that I get inspired by the people that showed up and finished. . .It takes a lot of heart, courage, and determination to set your eyes on the prize and finish what you've started!!

Thanks Emily and Katie and Mom on walking with me during the race!!

Fiesta Texas. . .and the Stares Kept Coming

It was my first time in years to go to an amusement park. . .a big reason was the lines, another would be because I was too big for most of the rides, and last did I mention the lines. Anyway, as I got geared up to get onto the first roll-a-coaster called "Goliath", how fitting. . . I waited for about 45 minutes or so with my wife to ride a less than 3 minutes ride, but. . .here again we were celebrating my 100 plus pound weight loss victory. . . and wouldn't you know it, the ride didn't fit with one seat belt. . . but. . .with two!! So, although I have a little more ways to go, I sucked it in and we were on are way. . . but, in contrast to, somebody had to make a comment about moving out of their seat and switching with me and my wife so that I could ride the ride. . . like being in the 3rd row as opposed to the 4th row was in any way going to jeopardize this person's rollercoaster riding experience. . . even after 100 plus pounds of weight loss. . . sad isn't it? The good news, I got to ride every single ride in the park, won a "name that tune" type of game show with my wife, got to cut in line twice as a prize for winning, and I was the one who had a blast. . . sorry mister-so-and-so-who-has-never-been-fat-a-day-in-your-life-had-to-move-to-the-4th-row-instead-of-the-3rd-row-in-order-to-accomodate-a-once-but-soon-to-be-no-more-fat-man! Consider that mister, your random act of kindness for former fat people around the world!!!

In other news,
met a new trainer at the Kyle location of Anytime Fitness, he and I became good friends already. . .he is 290 pounds of super heavy-duty muscle, and I am excited to work out with someone who can turn my flab into fab. . . so now I will possibly have two trainers---one for cardio and strength endurance and one for weights and even more strength training. . . As we were talking, he had told me that he has the same problem riding rides at amusement parks. . . the difference is mister so-and-so-would-have-moved-ever-so-nicely-in-order-to-accomodate-my-new-trainer-friend-for-fear-of-being-pummeled-into-submission-and-be-forced-to-ride-the-5th-row-because-he-got-flipped-over-the-fourth-row!

Have fun and join me in the fight against the bulge. . .

Something Inside

There's something inside of us that makes us do the things that we do.
Some are bad and some are good.
What is that thing that is inside of you?
No one really knows for sure, it's often misunderstood.
Wait, that doesn't make sense. . .or does it?
There's something inside, and I just can't quit.
Quit. . .on something or just on you?
Quit. . .on situations or things that you do?
Quitting is for losers, not winners. . .right?
Or is it that something inside that puts up a fight?
It's hard to say what that something inside might be.
It's hard to believe that it lives inside of me.
So what are you saying. . .I don't comprehend.
Could it be that something inside that has no end?
Possibly, but explain to me this.
What is it that gives us that heavenly bliss?
Is it that something inside that holds on tight?
Telling you what to do whether it's wrong or right.
Let me get this straight.
Because I just don't seem to equate. . .
That something inside could be so great. . .
Or that something inside can seal our fate.
So please tell me, what is that something inside?
I tell you my friend, that something inside is PRIDE!!
But don't think that it is always great. . .
Because there's something greater than even that mate.
What could this be?
This something inside can set you free.
This something inside gives you integrity.
This something inside lives and breathes.
This something inside died on Calvary.
This something is really a someone.
Do you know who?
Haven't got a clue.
I do, and you can too.
He is the reason for my being.
He is the truth, the way and the life.
And He keeps me out of harm and strife.
Jesus Christ is the something inside of my life!!

God Bless,

309, yes I said it. . . 10 pounds to the 200 pound man

Hey guys and gals, unless there is a misread on my scale. . . which I don't think that there is. . . because I tested this theory three times, and got the same results. . . I'm officially out of the 310's!! I now officially weigh 309lbs, that's a whopping 106pounds to date, and 81 pounds lost since trying out for NBC's "The Biggest Loser". Things are going according to plan, and hopefully in 3 weeks I will see those wonderful 200's! Just like a mighty steam engine, I just keep chug-chug-a-lugging away to a new thinner me!! Well, I will keep this one short, but let me give you a recipe for one my favorite things to eat. . . It's called a STAB sandwich. Sounds gruesome, but it tastes so good!!

STAB Sandwich:
S= Baby Spinach
T= Tomato
A= Avocado
B= Bacon (Jenny O turkey bacon to be exact)

Put these ingredients in between two whole wheat slices of bread and you have a low-calorie lunch that's sure to taste yummy and fill your stomach up at the same time.

Remember it's all about training your mind to substitute the junk food for the healthy food the way that God intended!!

326 pounds

In 6 hours and 30 minutes, I will be meeting with 8 contestants from NBC's The Biggest Loser. . . and I now weigh 326 pounds. That's a whopping 64 pounds since trying out for the show. As I think about what I'm going to say tomorrow. . . all I can do is look back at the old pictures of my former self. What happened to make me gain all that weight in the first place? What was so wrong in my life that I had to be in a self-induced coma of over-eating? I don't honestly know all the answers to why I gained all that weight, but what I do know is that the old way of doing things did not work for me at all. I'm nervous about meeting the contestants of the show tomorrow because part of me still feels like I failed. I know it seems silly, but think about it. My one hope and dream was to be on the show, and I did not get that opportunity. Strangely, I have to face some of my fears tomorrow when meeting with them because they got through to be a contestant on the show. They got the golden ticket, and I was left watching from the sidelines. Sounds like a pity party right? Well, the truth is we do this to ourselves all the time. Whoopi Goldberg once said that "Things in life that happen are the result of silly little coincidences." For example, Pete Thomas was grocery shopping today in Kyle, and I got up the courage to go up and talk to him. Now, mind you, I was not properly dressed. . . but then again who is when they are just out running errands. . . anyway. . .he took the time to get to know me. . . and you know what I think that we shared a moment or was it a funny little coincident? I am humbled and honored to meet with the contestants from the show, and maybe just maybe I have inspired them as much as they have already inspired me! Congrats. . . sincerely. . . on getting the golden ticket!!

The truth is that we all posess the golden ticket for success. A show does not do it. Having money does not do it. Having things handed to you does not do it. All things are possible with God. Phillipians 4:13 says that "I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength." Period. He is our golden ticket, and I'm so blessed to be able to let His light shine through me tomorrow.

God Bless and

331, 2 pounds away from 320's

Hey guys and gals, I will be in the 320's by the end of this week. It has been 4 or 5 years since I have seen this number. With everyday workouts of 1 to 2 hours a day, a healthy diet, and not to forget a awesome sponsorship with Anytime Fitness in San Marcos. . . I can just see the pounds melt away. . . once and for all! It was real easy to get discouraged in the first week of working out because I gained 7 pounds, but after tweaking my diet to fit the workout, the weight has just been falling off!! I love to go grocery shopping now for foods that are healthy to eat, and the great thing about it is that it's cheaper to buy healthier foods. We spend an average of 40 to 100 dollars a week in eating out, but how awesome is it to put that money into your pocket and eat healthy! To show you that it can be done, I have included one my newest recipes to get things started for you. I'm sure your mouth will be watering when you hear what I made. . . so here it is. . .

Erik Chase's Crazy Make You Wanna Cry Cause It's So Good Italian Chicken

4-6 small chicken breasts
1 green bell pepper
1 large sweet white onion
1 garlic bundle (about 9-12 cloves, I know cause I cut it myself)
1 large red tomato
1/3 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 cups low-fat mozzarella cheese
1 tsp of seasoning salt for chicken
1 tsp of italian spices/seasoning for chicken

It's As easy as 1-2-3

1)Cook 4-6 chicken breasts until thouroughly cooked all the way through, you'll know when inside is as white as the outside. Then slice chicken into cubes and put them back on the grill at a low heat setting.

2)Add 1 tsp of seasoning salt and italian spices evenly on all sides of chicken breasts

3)Chop onion, tomato, bell pepper, and garlic. Then add vegetables to
chicken in order to sautee vegetables and blend in the natural flavors in with the chicken breasts.

4)Add 1/3 cup italian breads crumbs to mixture and stir in all ingredients.

5) Lastly, top it off with low fat mozzarella cheese and ENJOY!!!

This whole meal will cost you about $10.00 and it will feed 4-6 people!!

And now for my exit,

It's been fun cooking with you. . . Until next time. . .

Detox, round 2

Hey guys and gals, I started a 2 week body cleanse. . . the Jillian Michaels one today. The good news, is that I don't have to fast with this one. The bad news, is I still have to take those wonderfully flavored horse pills (4 a day). It will help not only with the weight loss, but also with cleaning my body out! I'm looking forward to the results. I will be increasing my workouts to 2 hours a day, can you feel the burn? With a six pound weight gain, supposedly muscle, I have to continue to be consistent with my training. I know that the results will come, and that's what we will talk about today. Results. . . I have come up with a little acronym for this word that will help keep you motivated to stick with your weight loss journey.

R is for Routine
E is for Exercise
S is for Strengthens
U is for Us for
L is for Long
T is for Term
S is for Success

What's that spell RESULTS!!!

Keep chugging along and the weight will come off!

Keep watching as I get ready for the ride of my life on April 11th when I participate in the Capital 10K in Austin!!!

5 pounds of muscle?

Ok guys and gals, watching the NBC "The Biggest Loser", and realizing that they leave out one very crucial point. When you work muscles you haven't worked in a really really really long time, you can gain weight initially. That's what happened to me, I've been told by my trainer at Anytime Fitness. Thanks for the warning, all the while I'm wondering if the scale was pranked and I was on some type of hidden camera show. So as my body gets used to the workout regiment it will correct itself, and that's a good thing because I don't want to be the half-ton muscled bound man!!

In twelve short days, I will be having my picture taking with 8 contestants of the Biggest Loser, and I am so excited. I believe that God opens doors that no one can shut and closes doors that no one can open. I'm just going to the ride the tide, if it's ok with you!

Work Out Like a Loser

Hey guys and gals, mark it on your calendar. . . drum roll please. . . what's my favorite show? You guessed it NBC's "The Biggest Loser", and on February 20th in Kyle/Buda at the Jack C. Hays High School, 8 contestants from seasons 1-8 will come to work out with you! My good friend Krystal at Body Interiors invited me to go. . .and how did she find out about me? You guessed it again, my blog! She saw my blog and just so happened to be in charge of this awesome event to raise money fitness programs for our community and for our youth! I think this is a great opportunity to meet the ones who were actually on the show! For more details about this awesome event go to http://www.workoutlikealoser.com/!!

God is so good with the sponsorship at Anytime Fitness, My Texas News, Hays Free Press, The Kyle Eagle, and the opportunity to go to this event on February 20th! The funny thing is that I had already scheduled this weekend off without knowing about this event. . . that my friends is how awesome God can be!!

See you guys and gals on the 20th of this month to be a Loser among Actual Biggest Losers!!

My trainer's name is Brian

Hey guys and gals, today was the day that I got my butt kicked. . . physically! I went this morning for my first workout session with Brian. Man oh man, buff guys make it look so easy don't they. Wrong-o! I learned today that it takes a lot of discipline to be in shape. It's deffinitely not for the faint of heart. I learned that circuits are not just a bunch of wires in an electrical device, but a round of gruling, taxing endurance and strenght training. We lifted weights, I walked up hills, and all the while I could feel the pounds just shedding off. How invigorating to be able to work with someone that has only one job, to get you to physically fit! Thanks Brian for the workout and I can't wait for the next gauntlet of exercise to come. Tomorrow I rest with cardio and then I hit the weights again on Saturday!!

Keep watching as Erik Chase "Kyle's Biggest Loser" sheds the pounds and gets ready for the Capital 10k in April. Mark your calendars for April 11th!!

Capital K in April

Hey guys and girls, pray for me. . . please!! What have I signed myself up for. . . you guessed it. . . put it on your calendars. . . is the suspense killing you? Okay, enough with the climatic antics and on with the show. . . on April 11, 2010, I will be competing in the Capital 10k in Austin TX!!! That gives me 2 and 1/2 months to get physically fit for my first marathon! It's something that I have always wanted to do, but have never been able to do it. . . or so I thought! Remember that in life you are only limited by your own limitations, it's just a marathon right? Kind of symbolic of our lives don't you think. Our lives are not races to be won, they are marathons to endure. Endurance creates resilliancy and with resilliance, dexterity follows. Talk about a great way to build up your character and to get heart healthy at the same time. Walk fellow bloggers, there is a whole world out there for you to see!!

Weight loss to date: 56lbs
My goal before April 11th: 60 more pounds
That will put me at 274lbs!!!

Remember that life starts when you start living,
Erik Chase "Kyle's Biggest Loser"

Up and Down on the Scale

We have all been there, lose a few pounds gain it back. Lose some more. . . gain it back. . . but what if we could just keep it off. No one said that dieting would be easy, but as we look at our overindulgence, we have to take a good look at ourselves. Our pocket books become empty and all the while we are trying to fill a hunger that won't go away. Why? Why are we constantly pushing the limits of our belt size? Because it's the only thing that we can control. . . or is it? I have been asking myself this question as I get ready for an intensive workout regiment. God has blessed me with an opportunity to represent Kyle at Anytime Fitness and I am nervous about failing. Just being honest, but nerves are good. It tells us that we still have some breath in our body and that the blood is pumping. Which means I'm not dead yet. . . and as I watched yesterday's episode of The Biggest Loser, I'm reminded of how blessed I am. These people do not realize what it took to get out of bed that day when I decided to audition for the show, or if they have they have seriously forgotten about the thousands upon thousands of people that would kill to be in their shoes. Let this be a lesson to all of you who read my blog, don't give up when dissappointment in life happens. It's when we give up that we hit the scale at 415lbs, a 54in waist, and pre-death. At least that was my story, now I'm taking what I have learned from my experience trying out for the Biggest Loser and taking it to the next level. Who needs a show to lose weight anyway, I can lose weight Anytime! So get off that couch, stop eating those bon-bons, and work out with me. I pledge to lose 100 lbs this year and run that 5k by August!!

You too can be a Loser. . . after all losers win in the end!!

4 pound away from 330

Can you believe it? All the effort over the last 5 months has really paid off. I'm 4 pounds away from 330!! And to top it off. . . today I fit into a pair of 44 in Tommy Hilfiger blue jeans! My pastor even commented on how nice my butt was starting to look, don't worry she's happily married. . .but. . .awesome anyway! God is doing some amazing things with my weight loss and I hope to keep it up. . . and yes I still want to try on leather pants! Ok, it may seem silly to you skinny folks, but to us fat people that is like the ultimate reward. . . to be able to squeeze into clothes we were'nt allowed to squeeze into when we were big. . . and. . . if it's good for Tim McGraw, it's good for Erik Chase "Kyle's Biggest Loser"!

I meet with My Texas News this week to go over my membership with AnyTime Fitness, I'm so excited to represent Kyle, TX and be able to lose the weight once and for all! Who knows, maybe I'll be a personal trainer when all is said and done!

Anytime fitness

Hey guys and gals, I'm excited to announce that Anytime fitness will be sponsoring my weight loss. I just got a call today from My Texas News, and they delivered the good news. As you guys know this blog is dedicated to people who are going through weight loss, and I have been working very diligently to shed those unwanted pounds, but like so many of us I have hit a brick wall. With the inception of NBC's "The Biggest Loser", I thought it would be a great idea to seek the help of professional trainers to help me achieve my goals. It hasn't been easy talking to people about my plan, but finally breakthrough! Another important lesson to learn in life about persistence, don't give up. Now, I will have the tools needed to catapult my weight loss journey in a big way! It's hard to believe that in college I weighed 415lbs, and now I weigh 336lbs! Hopefully by August I can compete in a 5k!!

Stayed tuned. . . The Weight is Over: A Fat Man's Journey to Get Thin, is in production!!!! A book about addiction to be published by Sept or October of 2010 written by me!

The Holiday Weight is gone, and Now Let the New Year Begin

Hey guys and gals, as the fast pace rush to the finish line of retail shopping is done and waistlines increase momentarily, I'm pleased to announce that the holiday weight is gone. Six pounds is what I gained during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, and all of which is gone. . . and not a moment too soon. . . you guessed it NBC's "The Biggest Loser" is on again! With a whopping 526 pound man!! Thank God that I have been losing weight without being a contestant on the show. . . now I know this season was the one that I auditioned for. . . and I know that it sure would have been nice getting dieticians, the gym, and Jillian and Bob yelling and screaming at me under lights and camera. . . but. . . in contrast to. . .the show's premise now, I believe is to get people on the show that are can physically walk, but are so "close" to dying that they have no other outlet. . . but to be on the show! I'm a big fan of the show, but I'm a bigger fan of my God who can supernaturally help me in my weight loss journey! I know that weight affects so many people. . . but. . . what if. . . we decide. . . to make this year about "no excuses" and "no procastinations" . . . but. . . "solutions" and "proclamations". After all, do we want to be losers anyway? Not me, because I've already won, and I did not need a show to do that for me!

Current weight 337
Goal weight 210

Back on the Weight loss Wagon

Hey guys and gals,

I know it has been awhile since my last entry. Things have been crazy lately. Recently, my wife and I started a business, got a new cat, and I was featured in the January issue of Hays Free Press. I took a little break from writing to spend time with the family during the holidays, and of course I do sell jewelry for a living. Girls and their diamond rings and things. . . but I am pleased to announce that I am back to working out and eating right. I want this year to be the year of restoration! 2009 is gone, but welcome 2010! With this year there comes an opportunity for new beginnings and new hope. . . and thinner waist lines! I want to encourage everyone to keep plugging away at those pounds, the slimmer side of life is closer than you think!!

I will keep you posted as the weight begins to fall off again.

You might even see some pictures of the transformation, recipes, and testimonials of other weight loss success stories. Again this year is going to be fantastic and we will fight the good fight against food indulgence and prevent childhood obesity before it becomes adult obesity!

You may have noticed the link attached to the top of my blog now, it is my new business that I started. Check out the web page, sign up for example dish network through my webpage, making life a lot more convenient for you! If you want to be a rep, I can tell you how!!

Remember life begins when you start living,
